The Road to Ventoux - Part 32

Road to Ventoux Part 32

D-Day: the second climb started to hurt….

The Ventoux3 challenge is raising money for the Out of the Blues charity at https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/outoftheblues.

I had a forewarning that the Malaucene climb was not going to be much easier than the Bedoin one, and it wasn’t! This was compounded by increasing heat and my legs feeling the first climb in them. Things started off OK. The three of us – Mary, Richard and I – chatted and worked together, or to be fair, they pulled me up. However, this started to have a negative impact on Mary and Richard, and I pulled away from them to reach the skiing resort of Mont Serein first, where the support team were waiting. We needed a bit of a rest and top up of fluid and fuel. None of us looked forward to getting back on our bikes, knowing that after a flat section at Mont Serein, you are hit with a few bits of 14% incline. After that you hit the white limestone section and can see the road switch backing up to the radio mast at the top, which seems a long way above you!

Further information about the challenge, and my blogs about my training, can be found at http://outoftheblues.org/news/cat/the-road-to-ventoux.
