NCMD Seminar Series Presents 'Sex-specific biomarkers in depression: an endocrine-immunological perspective'
This weeks seminar welcomed Dr Giulia Lombardo to deliver her talk on 'Sex-specific biomarkers in depression: an endocrine-immunological perspective'.
Dr Lombardo is a postdoctoral researcher in the Stress, Psychiatry, and Immunology (SPI)-Lab and in Psychoimmunometabolix and Interaction with the Environment (PIXIE)-Lab at the Department of Psychological Medicine, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IOPPN), King’s College London (KCL). Giulia has a strong interest in investigating the heterogeneity of depression, with a specific focus on sex differences. After the MSc in Psychology in Italy, she moved to London to complete her PhD investigating sex-specific biomarkers in major depressive disorder and treatment-resistant depression, in particular focussing on sex hormones and inflammatory biomarkers and their interplay. Her dedication to scientific dissemination extends to both public and academic domains. Dr Lombardo is one of the main Academic Leads of the Immunopsychiatry Meetings, organised in collaboration with the ECNP Immunoneuropsychiatry Network. Her ultimate goal is to contribute to the development of sex-specific precision psychiatry.
