Funding Award: Team Lithium

White NIHR biomedical research

We are delighted to announce that Team Lithium have successfully been awarded NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre Dementia, Mental Health & Neurodegeneration PPI Funding. The principal investigator on this project is Dr Victoria Wing, with co-investigators Dr David Cousins and Christopher Gibbs.

Team Lithium is a group of clinicians and scientists focused on harnessing the therapeutic benefits of lithium to improve outcomes in psychiatry. At this pivotal point in determining their future research directions, they want to engage with the public, prompt community engagement, and create opportunity for long-term PPI embedded within Team Lithium to increase research impact. To achieve this, they will invite people with lived experience of mood disorders or taking lithium to a consultative focus group, to determine their priorities and generate research questions. It would begin with introductions and session outline, followed by a brief presentation disseminating Team Lithium’s work. They will then invite people to engage in an open, unconstrained conversation regarding possible research ideas based upon personal experiences and interests, exploring possible lines of enquiry, and gaining insight into attitudes towards lithium. They will co-produce a thematic analysis of the discussion and begin to form involvement groups.

Congratulations, Team Lithium!
