RELMED
About the study
RELMED is a research study focused on improving how we treat depression.
Currently, finding the right antidepressant medication can take time, often involving trying several different types of antidepressants. Our aim is to create tests that can tell us in advance which antidepressant will work best for each person.
What does the study involve?
In the study, participants will take one of two antidepressant medications, do tasks on the computer that are a bit like games and complete online questionnaires. Optionally, participants can also complete extra computer tasks and questionnaires and participate in a brain activity recording (EEG).
Participants will complete all computer tasks and questionnaires remotely, from their home. If they wish to participate in the optional EEG component of the study, this will be in person at Newcastle University, Campus for Ageing and Vitality, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Who can take part?
Participants may be able to take part if they fulfil all of the following criteria:
- Experiencing depression or low mood
- Are 18 years or above
- Registered with a GP in the UK
- Open to taking one of two antidepressants for 6 months
- Have not taken an antidepressant medication in the last 6 weeks
