ILiAD
About the study:
- Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, and ongoing research is essential to improve our understanding of the disease. There is some evidence suggesting that lithium may help reduce the risk of developing dementia and could improve memory in people with Alzheimer’s disease.
- This study aims to investigate whether lithium has any beneficial effects for individuals living with Alzheimer’s.
What does the study involve?
The study will involve a small group of people with Alzheimer’s disease and the same number of healthy volunteers. Participants will receive varying doses of lithium and undergo MRI scans.
The hope is that this research will guide dosage levels for future lithium treatment trials and will help researchers understand how easy it is for people with Alzheimer’s to take lithium to ensure it is a viable treatment option.
