The Road to Ventoux - Part 30
D-Day: Reaching the top the first time around….
The Ventoux3 challenge is raising money for the Out of the Blues charity at https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/outoftheblues.
After a fantastic climb, it was all smiles at the top as Mary and I held up the Ventoux3 for Out of the Blues flag aloft for a photo. Then it was a quick bit to eat and a change out of my wet short sleeved jersey and on with a long sleeved one plus gilet for the descent.
Dropping down the other side of the mountain towards Malaucene we were treated to fantastic views towards to Alpes. The descent also emphasised that while the average gradient up from Malaucene is slightly less than the climb from Bedoin (7.2 vs 7.6%), the steep sections are steeper – not very encouraging when you realise you have to cycle all the way back up again.
Further information about the challenge, and my blogs about my training, can be found at http://outoftheblues.org/news/cat/the-road-to-ventoux.
