New Publication: A systematic review of case reports and case series of zolpidem in the diagnosis and treatment of catatonia

Zolpidem catatonia 2

Congratulations to NCMD members, Dr Niraj Ahuja, Harry Hackett, Dr Joseph Thorne, Professor Hamish McAllister-Williams and Dr Stuart Watson on their recent publication: A systematic review of case reports and case series of zolpidem in the diagnosis and treatment of catatonia

Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) are difficult to do in catatonic patients, so case reports are valuable sources of information for indicating which treatments may be effective. In this paper, NCMD colleagues support current British Association of Psychopharmacology guidelines that there may be a role for zolpidem, following lorazepam, as a second line challenge test and effective treatment in catatonia.
