NCMD Seminar Presents 'Using linked EHR to understand frequent use of emergency service'
Dr Soraia Sousa, Consultant Psychiatrist and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Newcastle University, presented a fantastic seminar on 'Using linked EHR to understand frequent use of emergency service' for our NCMD Seminar Programme this Friday.
Dr Sousa currently works in Liaison Psychiatry at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead, interested in the interface of mental and physical illness and big data analysis. They are currently working on a number of projects, including the AI MULTIPLY project which focus on the use of AI and Machine Learning methods in the study of long-term conditions and polypharmacy.
Dr Sousa describes the current theory that the pressure on emergency services has grown year after year and it is well described that a small number of users account for the utilization of a substantive portion of these resources often referred to as "frequent attenders". With an increased focus on linkage of large datasets of EHR, is it now possible to study this group's utilisation of emergency services?
Thank you to Dr Sousa for delivering this presentation!
