CNTW Trust Wide Teaching on 'Cognitive Impairments in Bipolar Disorder: Is there a role for Psychological Remediation?'

Today, NCMD executive committee member, Dr Stephen Barton, delivered some fantastic teaching for the Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust, Trust Wide Teaching programme for post-graduate doctors training and practicing in psychiatry.

This talk gave an overview on the impact of Bipolar Disorder on cognitive functioning. Dr Barton went on to introduce Cognitive Remediation (CR), a psychological intervention originally developed to address cognitive impairments in schizophrenia. He also described two recent NIHR trials that have tested CR in euthymic bipolar patients, one completed (CRiB1, feasibility trial), and one ongoing with an active Newcastle site (CRiB2, full scale RCT).

Thank you to Dr Stephen Barton for this brilliant teaching for the trust wide (MedEd) teaching programme!
