What is treatment augmentation?

Treatment augmentation is when a second treatment (usual a medication) is added to another drug. For example, it may involve adding a second medication such as lithium to an antidepressant with the aim of achieving a better clinical response. Treatment augmentation is sometimes called treatment combination, especially when it involves using two antidepressants.
